Close up photography with supplementary lenses

Sometimes we are limited by the closest focusing distance of our camera and this makes taking close up views of flowers and animals impossible. With the addition of a supplementary lens we can change this closest focus point and be able to get a bigger image on the camera sensor. Image quality will suffer as you increase the power of the supplementary lens as the optics begin to suffer chromatic aberrations and if the camera main lens is set to a high zoom setting the lens performance becomes extremely poor. With the camera lens set to a wide or moderate zoom and the aperture set to F11 or more you can achieve some decent images. Remember that as we increase magnification so the depth of field diminishes so accurate focus is best achieved manually

  1. these lenses fit the GH1?

  2. Yes, you can fing supplementary lenses in most filter sizes, 46mm for the fz35, 72 for the GH1 etc, the beauty is you still have full autofocus and exposure!
